Melomeno - Είδη Τσαγιού

If you are preparing a party for the holiday season, then the warm wine is probably must. Today it is consumed in some of its variants (and many) in most European countries, being particularly popular in Germany and northern countries, where the so-called “glögg” is a traditional element of the Christmas season. Typically, hot wine is accompanied by classical delicacies of the period, such as gingerbread. The exact combination of spices used varies from country to country and from person to person:

Hot wine ingredients:

2 bottles of red wine Merlot & Agiorgitiko Vassiliki Parliarou
1 barspoon of freshly ground nutmeg
1 barspoon carnation
2 laurel leaves
4 star anise
4 cinnamon sticks
12 barspoon brown sugar
100ml orange juice
Peel of an orange
Peel of a lemon
1 orange cut into washers

Procedure:

First, close a spoonful of all the spices and peel of the fruit and tie it with a yarn. This will prevent small chunks from mixing with wine, and so it will be easier to drink.
Put the wine along with the pouch in a saucepan and heat slowly until the kitchen has been mocked (about 15 minutes). Do not let the wine boil, just simmer slowly.
Add the sugar with the orange juice and stir. Try to see if it’s pretty sweet and adjust the mix accordingly.
Put one orange spoon in each cup and add the wine with a ladle. Stir and serve with a stick of cinnamon in every cup!
